(Mineral Trioxide Aggregate), is a dental material commonly used in endodontics for various procedures, such as root canal treatments. It's known for its biocompatibility and sealing properties. Waldent seal pro MTA typically comes in a powdered form, and when mixed with a liquid, it forms a paste-like consistency that can be applied to dental procedures. It's used for tasks like pulp capping, repairing root perforations, and sealing the root canal system.

Indications:

  • Pulp Capping: MTA is commonly used for pulp capping procedures. When there's an exposure of dental pulp due to caries or trauma, MTA can be applied to encourage pulp healing and protect it from further damage.
  • Apexification: MTA is used to promote the formation of a calcified barrier at the root tip (apex) in immature teeth with open apices. This helps in sealing off the root canal system.
  • Perforation Repair: MTA is excellent for repairing root perforations, which can occur during root canal treatment. It seals the perforation site and prevents the spread of infection.
  • Root-End Surgery: During surgeries like apicoectomy (removal of the tooth's apex), MTA is used to seal the root-end, preventing any further infection or complications.
  • Sealing Root Canals: MTA is used as a root canal sealer. It provides a hermetic seal, preventing the reinfection of the treated tooth.

Features

  • Biocompatibility: Waldent MTA is highly biocompatible, which means it is well-tolerated by the human body and does not elicit an adverse immune response. This makes it a safe choice for dental procedures.
  • Sealing Properties: Waldent MTA forms an excellent seal when mixed with water, creating a tight barrier in the root canal system. This helps prevent the entry of bacteria and fluids, reducing the risk of infection.
  • Mineralization: Waldent MTA has the ability to induce the formation of mineralized tissue, promoting healing and repair of damaged dental pulp and periapical tissues.
  • Versatility: Waldent MTA has a wide range of applications in endodontics, including pulp capping, apexification, perforation repair, root-end surgery, and root canal sealing. Its versatility makes it valuable for various dental procedures.
  • Radiopacity: Waldent MTA contains bismuth oxide, which provides radiopacity. This allows dental professionals to visualize MTA on X-rays, aiding in monitoring the placement and effectiveness of the material.
  • Longevity: Waldent MTA has shown excellent long-term outcomes in dental procedures, ensuring the longevity of the treated tooth.
  • Bioactivity: Waldent MTA is bioactive, meaning it can stimulate the formation of hard tissue, such as dentin, in the presence of moisture. This property promotes healing and repair.
  • Low Solubility: Waldent MTA exhibits low solubility, which means it remains stable and does not dissolve easily in the oral environment.
  • Hermetic Seal: When properly applied, MTA provides a hermetic seal, preventing the reinfection of the treated tooth.
  • Clinical Success: Waldent MTA has a strong track record of clinical success in various endodontic procedures and is widely accepted by dental professionals for its effectiveness.

Compositions:

  • Tricalcium Silicate (Ca3SiO5): Tricalcium silicate is the primary ingredient of MTA. It is responsible for the hydraulic properties of MTA, allowing it to set and harden when mixed with water. Tricalcium silicate also contributes to the biocompatibility and bioactivity of MTA.
  • Dicalcium Silicate (Ca2SiO4): Dicalcium silicate is another silicate component present in MTA. It provides structural support to the material and contributes to its setting properties.
  • Tricalcium Aluminate (Ca3Al2O6): Tricalcium aluminate is included in MTA to help it set relatively quickly, allowing it to become hard and functional during dental procedures.
  • Bismuth Oxide (Bi2O3): Bismuth oxide is added to MTA for radiopacity, making it visible on X-rays. This radiopacity is important for clinicians to monitor the placement and integrity of MTA in dental procedures.

Driection to Use

Pulp Capping:

  • Isolation: Ensure a dry and isolated field. Use rubber dam isolation if possible to prevent saliva contamination.
  • Cleaning: Remove any carious or contaminated tissue from the pulp exposure site.
  • MTA Mixing: Mixing MTA powder with the appropriate liquid (usually sterile water) to achieve a paste-like consistency.
  • Placement: Carefully place the mixed MTA onto the exposed pulp site, ensuring it covers the area completely.
  • Sealing: Ensure a hermetic seal and avoid any voids or gaps.
  • Setting Time: Allow the MTA to set. This may take several hours, so be patient.
  • Restoration: After the MTA has set, restore the tooth with an appropriate restorative material.

Perforation Repair:

  • Isolation: Maintain a dry field using rubber dam isolation.
  • Cleaning: Clean and disinfect the perforation site.
  • MTA Mixing: Mix the MTA as instructed.
  • Placement: Carefully place MTA into the perforation site, ensuring it seals the area.
  • Radiographic Confirmation: Verify the placement with X-rays.
  • Restoration: After MTA sets, restore the tooth with the appropriate restoration material.
